The district pays for a Basic life insurance policy for you, at one times your annual salary with a minimum of $20,000 and maximum of $100,000. This will provide some peace of mind knowing your loved ones will have a benefit.
Employee Voluntary Life: As a newly benefited employee, you may purchase guaranteed coverage for yourself in $10,000 increments up to a maximum of $150,000, without completing medical underwriting (evidence of insurability). Amounts over the guaranteed issue will be subject to evidence of insurability (medical questions). You have the option to purchase voluntary life insurance for your spouse and/or dependent child(ren). PLEASE NOTE: You may only purchase voluntary life insurance for your spouse/child(ren) if you purchase voluntary Life insurance for yourself in an amount equal or greater than the spouse/child(ren) elected amount.
Spouse Life: The spouse voluntary Life benefit may be purchased in increments of $5,000 up to a maximum amount of $50,000. The guaranteed amount for spouse coverage is $50,000, if elected at the initial enrollment opportunity.
Child Life: You may elect coverage from $2,500 to $10,000 for children up to age 26 years. All amounts for children are guaranteed so long as the employee has elected voluntary coverage for themselves.

When an employee cannot work for an extended period of time due to a disability, Long Term Disability Insurance (LTD) can help cover a portion of an employee’s salary.
Springfield Public Schools provides you with LTD Insurance through New York Life. The plan covers you at 60% of your annual base salary, with a maximum benefit of $5,000 per month, for the first two years following an approved disability claim. This coverage is provided at no cost to you. Requested increases for coverage for long term disability insurance do not become effective until approved by New York Life.
