Career Preparation experiences are geared toward 11th and 12th grade students and deepen student knowledge and develop skills necessary for success in employment and postsecondary education. These experiences are recommended for students who have a clear goal of entering the workforce directly after high school or of enrolling in a closely related postsecondary training program. These experiences are structured primarily to give students extensive practice in applying fundamental technical and practical knowledge and skills in their chosen careers. Career Preparation experiences take place over a longer timeframe and involve more responsibilities. These experiences include: Guest Speakers, Career Days, Workplace tours, Practicum, Job Shadowing, Internships, School-Based Enterprise, and Registered Youth Apprenticeships.

Using guest speakers to support learning is structured career awareness in which students listen to a presentation to learn about the speaker’s career, business or organization and industry, and ask questions to help them consider whether they might like to pursue a career in the industry.
