Parkview High School juniors stood in the cold rain in the parking lot of JFK Stadium on Friday, Jan. 31 watching a crash emergency docudrama unfold.

The realistic, large-scale mock crash simulation was held in order to raise awareness about the life-threatening dangers of impaired and distracted driving. The demonstration featured student actors, first responders performing real-time emergency procedures and a post-event assembly led by CoxHealth.

“With prom season approaching, this event is designed to leave a lasting impact on students by immersing them in the harsh reality of driving under the influence,” said Parkview DECA advisor and instructor Jill Fannin. “This was a visually compelling and emotionally moving event, providing an inside look at how local schools and emergency services are working together to prevent tragedies before they happen.”

The assembly after the crash featured speakers from Think First of the Ozarks. Led by Luke Spain, the Chapter Director & Injury Prevention Coordinator for CoxHealth, Think First focuses primarily on roadway safety.

“My hope with any program like this is that students will have an opportunity in a safe and controlled environment to see firsthand the consequences of poor choices behind the wheel,” said Spain. “I hope this program will have a positive impact on students’ behaviors.”
