Project Lead the Way Engineering students visit SRC Electrical

There are so many jobs in manufacturing, and there are so many paths to a career in engineering -- right here in Springfield.
On Tuesday, Dec. 3, more than 50 Project Lead the Way Engineering students from Hillcrest, Glendale and Parkview high schools visited SRC Electrical for an in-depth tour of its facility, including a sneak peek into its new electric vehicle lab and answering students' questions along the way.
"SRC is deeply committed to fostering the next generation of engineers and innovators," said Erin Malone, director of Human Resources for SRC. "By providing high school engineering students the opportunity to tour our facilities, we aim to offer them firsthand exposure to the industry, helping them understand the real-world applications of the concepts they are learning in school."
On the floor of SRC's facility, thousands of parts are remanufactured with precision. Students were able to get an up-close look at remanufactured alternators, electromechanical devices, starters and more.
But for some students, seeing a thriving local manufacturing center at work was a lesson in what's possible in their hometown.
"We believe that engaging students at this stage in their academic journey can inspire them to pursue careers in engineering and related fields," said Malone. "It also provides a chance to showcase the diverse range of career opportunities available within the engineering sector. We are excited to give these students an inside look at the cutting-edge technologies and projects we work on, and hopefully, we will spark a passion for innovation and problem-solving."
