KHS Fashion Design students create newspaper dresses inspired by the eras

Kickapoo Fashion is making the news.
At Kickapoo High School, Fashion Design II students created dresses out of newspaper to begin their learning this school year.
"In our Fashion Design II curriculum, we emphasize the importance of understanding fashion influences from various cultures and time periods," said KHS teacher Becky Bones. "Students started out researching and sketching their favorite decades of American clothing, which evolved into bringing their designs to life."
This hands-on activity helps students translate their research into tangible designs, offering them the opportunity to experiment with draping techniques and learn teamwork as collaborative creatives.
Working with a non-traditional medium like newspaper also encourages problem-solving and adaptability -- essential skills in fashion design.
"Our Fashion II students are learning skills that go way beyond fashion," said Ashley Devore, Coordinator of Career Technical. "It's so exciting to see their work, and this is just the beginning of what they'll create."
