This school year, SPS families are ready to thrive.

On Saturday, July 27, more than 6,500 people attend the third annual SPS Back to School Bash. Part kick-off celebration, part resource fair, the districtwide event helped SPS families have a successful start to their school year.

"We're here to serve, and we are serving our community," said Superintendent Grenita Lathan. "It just makes me feel great to know that we have an opportunity to meet a need that our families have. I hope that the community understands that SPS cares about these children, their families, and we're here to serve."

More than 170 volunteers helped pass out resources, served lunch, coordinated art projects, demonstrated robots and answered questions.

Together, we distributed:
  • 4,500+ backpacks with basic school supplies
  • 3,000 hygiene kits from Care to Learn
  • 4,700+ bags of groceries from Convoy of Hope
  • 4,000+ cheeseburgers and apple slices
  • 250 haircut vouchers from Supercuts
With the help of more than 50 community partners, we were able to distribute more than $100,000 of resources to SPS families.

School starts Monday, Aug. 19.
