Glendale High School theatre teacher Dusty Thomas was named KY3 Teacher of the Month presented by APP.ink.

The veteran theater teacher was presented with a $250 check on the stage of Glendale High School. A KY3 viewer nominated Thomas for the honor.

“I am always working, dreaming and designing and working to help engage students in the art of theater,” said Thomas. “The theater is a place where students learn so many skills, but it’s also a place of real belonging. Students can find a place and a passion in theater, while learning so much.”

At Glendale High School, Thomas is the theater teacher, as well as a multi-faceted educator on campus. In addition to leading musical and play productions each year, she supports theater instruction as the Curriculum Development Chair districtwide.

More than 250 Glendale High School students are in theater.

“Theater can be the place in high school where students find a place where they can succeed, giving them confidence to try big things,” said Thomas. “I have a group of students who are building a curved staircase for our set. There are no plans, they just are figuring it out. That’s what theater does – it encourages risk-taking, and that makes confident leaders, long after the curtain closes.”
