SPS United: Meet Jeremy Alsup, International Baccalaureate coordinator
Sept. 27, 2023
“The International Baccalaureate Programme aims to develop well-rounded, internationally-minded citizens who are equipped to meet now and future challenges—both expected and unexpected—with optimism and expertise. Student learning is framed through the Learner Profile, which prioritizes 10 attributes.
IB learners strive to be: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. Applying this framework to student learning is immense. The pedagogical approaches of IB prepare students for high levels of academic and holistic success, while at once positioning them to contribute to their communities now and post-secondary.
SPS is the only district in this and surrounding states that houses PYP-DP/CP across five sites. Our district’s ability to impact students and communities through the IB Programme now and in the long-term is unrivaled. I consider it a privilege to play a part in maximizing the impact of the IB Programme for SPS students through systems building and program expansion in Springfield Public Schools.
There are so many exciting things on the horizon for our SPS IB Programme! With Dr. Lathan’s mission and vision guiding all we do, the sky is the limit. We are currently exploring ways to grow IB at each of our sites. This means reaching more students with more course offerings, more opportunities for community involvement and professional networking, and more open doors for students now and post-secondary.
For IB and myself at SPS, we’re just getting started.”
