“This seemed like an interesting and fun way to spend a part of high school. Drafting and design was close to what I wanted to do in the future, so I figured I’d take college classes in high school, for free, and get a head start. After I graduate from high school, I will use my A+ scholarship and continue my studies at OTC to earn my associate degree from OTC, all for free.
It’s been a blast. I really enjoy all the things I get to do, the programs I get to use, and the projects are fun. Every day is different, and I’m learning a lot. I’ll graduate and be able to be a basic draftsman. I could get a job right after high school, if I wanted.
It’s different being on a college campus. It’s nice to not have to ask permission to do something. There’s a lot more freedom, a lot more flexibility. I can email my teachers when I have something going on and communicate with them that way. It’s not harder than my regular high school classes, it’s just different. They’re college classes that I choose. I like my afternoons at OTC.
At the Career Center, you get college credit in high school. It’s a good use of your time. Instead of doing an extra elective just because you have the time in your schedule, you can go to OTC, for free, and earn college credit. It gets you a head start on college and you’re earning a credential or a certificate. It’s a smarter decision in every way.
The best part of the Career Center was the opportunity to experience programs, careers and credentials that I wouldn’t have been able to in high school. I wouldn’t have been able to use the technology or access to the drafting programs I have here. I’ll graduate and become a basic draftsman, and I want to go on to be a mechanical draftsman. I’m so far ahead because of my time here.
That wouldn’t have happened without the Career Center. I’m glad I did it.”
