On National Seat Belt Day, Kickapoo High School students participated in a number of activities to educate and promote safe driving habits.
Before school and during lunch, students took the Chief Challenge, pledging to practice safe driving habits. Students who signed the contract were entered to win a number of prizes donated by businesses.
That was just the beginning. During the first and second blocks, students were able to witness a mock crash/docudrama in their school's parking lot. Student actors, police officers with a patrol car, firemen with a fire truck, EMS with an ambulance, a hearse and crashed cars all participated in the simulated car accident, emphasizing the critical importance of safe driving. Kickapoo students played the roles of victims involved in the fake crash.
"A big thank you to Officer Goss at Kickapoo for putting this together for our students, and thanks to all of the local businesses for their donations," said Scott Phillips, KHS assistant principal. "Also, a big thank you to all of the first responders who are helping. These volunteers are heroes every day in our community, and we're grateful they participated in helping our students learn the importance of driving safely."
