Governor visits Wilson’s Creek for National Blue Ribbon award celebration
May 9, 2022
Missouri Governor Mike Parson and First Lady Teresa Parson visited Wilson’s Creek Intermediate School for a schoolwide assembly May 9. The event celebrated Wilson’s Creek designation as a National Blue Ribbon School.
Wilson’s Creek is one of eight schools in Missouri and one of 325 schools in the country to achieve this designation. The recognition is based on a school's overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
Gov. Parson addressed students and staff and congratulated them on their high standards and outstanding achievement.
Superintendent Grenita Lathan also addressed the group of fifth-graders and sixth-graders.
“Being named a National Blue Ribbon School means that people in Missouri and the United States believe you are outstanding,” she explained to students. “Other schools throughout this country will see what a great school Wilson’s Creek is and may model what you are doing here to achieve success themselves.”
Each year, the U.S. Education Department invites National Blue Ribbon Schools nominations from the top education officials in all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and the Bureau of Indian Education.
