Apply now for free or reduced price meals

As the second semester begins, we want to remind parents of the opportunity to apply for Free and Reduced Price Meals. Even if families have not been eligible in the past, they may qualify now due to a change in employment status, income level or number of dependents in their household. Apply online here.

While students are currently receiving free meals at school, made possible by pandemic relief funds, it is important that families complete the annual Free and Reduced Price Meal Application. This is a first step to determine if they are eligible for other services.

By completing the application, they will not only ensure that their family receives eligible benefits, but they will help schools access funding that supports students and teachers.

For every student who qualifies for free or reduced price meals, Springfield Public Schools receives federal and state funds that can be used for:

  • Additional teachers and instructional support, especially for students struggling in math and reading.
  • Support for students in the areas of attendance, behavior, and science, technology, engineering, and math instruction.
  • Parent involvement activities at school.
  • Professional learning for staff, which helps improve instruction and increase student achievement.

The application only takes a few minutes to complete and is available online here. These Frequently Asked Questions and Income Eligibility Guidelines are available to assist in completing the application. Parents may also obtain a paper copy of the application from their child's school or the Nutrition Services office.

Parents who need assistance with completing the application may contact the Nutrition Services department at (417) 523-1130.
