SPS Provides an Update on Covid-19
Springfield Public Schools is working in collaboration with the Springfield-Greene County Health Department and is following its guidance when positive cases of COVID-19 are reported within the district.
SPS has made notifications to individuals who might potentially be impacted by the following COVID-19 exposures:
August 25
- Reed Academy: An individual who attended the sixth grade orientation event at Reed on August 20 has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual was in the building from approximately 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. on August 20. Interaction with and exposure to the positive COVID-19 case are considered limited. As a result, any other individuals within the building during that timeframe are not considered direct contacts; however, they should monitor for symptoms and contact a healthcare provider if symptoms develop.
- Gray Elementary: An individual associated with the YMCA before- and after-school program at Gray Elementary has tested positive for COVID-19. Any person who had close contact with the individual who tested positive will be directly contacted and provided specific guidance. All others are encouraged to monitor for symptoms and immediately contact their healthcare provider if symptoms develop.
August 17
- Kickapoo High School: An individual associated with the Kickapoo football program has tested positive for COVID-19. Interaction with and exposure to the positive case are considered limited. As a result, athletes and coaching staff are not considered direct contacts; however, they should monitor for symptoms and contact a healthcare provider if symptoms develop.
August 14
- Central High School: An individual associated with the Central volleyball program has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result of potential exposure, all those associated with the Central team have been advised to quarantine in isolation at home through Aug. 25 and to monitor for symptoms.
August 12
- Hillcrest High School: An individual associated with Hillcrest High School has tested positive for COVID-19. Prior to being symptomatic, the individual had interaction with others, while masked, in the following environments: at Hillcrest High School on Aug. 6 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m., and on Aug. 7 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; and at JQH Arena during graduation Aug, 6 at 4 p.m. Individuals who may have been present should monitor for symptoms.

Kickapoo High School: An individual associated with a Kickapoo Softball event on July 27-28 tested positive for Covid-19. The individual was wearing a mask during the event and the risk of exposure is considered low. All those who participated in the event are advised to monitor for symptoms.
July 30
- Kickapoo High School: An individual associated with the Kickapoo volleyball program has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result of potential exposure on July 23, all those associated with the Kickapoo team have been advised to quarantine in isolation at home through Aug. 6 and to monitor for symptoms.
- Parkview High School: An individual associated with the track and field event at Parkview High School on July 22 has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual was wearing a mask during the event and the risk of exposure is considered low. Students and staff who participated in the event are advised to monitor for any symptoms.
July 29
- Truman Elementary School: An individual at Truman Elementary has tested positive for COVID-19. Those that had direct contact with the individual are being asked to quarantine and monitor for symptoms.
July 28
- Sherwood Elementary School: A student enrolled in Explore at Sherwood Elementary has tested positive for COVID-19. Those enrolled in the same Explore class, and limited others in direct contact, are being asked to quarantine and monitor for symptoms.
July 20
- Harrison Elementary School: A student enrolled in Explore and the SPARC before- and after-school program at Harrison has tested positive for Covid-19. Those enrolled in the same Explore class, and limited others in direct contact, are asked to quarantine and monitor for symptoms.
July 15
- Rountree Elementary School: Due to an employee testing positive for COVID-19, the Springfield-Greene Health Department has advised that Rountree Explore students and staff quarantine at home through July 24. Rountree will reopen Monday, July 27. Until then, students will be able to participate in Explore online.
- Twain Elementary School: An individual associated with the YMCA before- and after-Explore program at Twain has tested positive for COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution, the YMCA has temporarily suspended the program at Twain.
- Glendale High School: An individual associated with the Glendale High School football program has tested positive for COVID-19. Football conditioning at Glendale will be suspended for 14 days. In addition, the Health Department is advising all students and staff who have participated in football conditioning to quarantine at home through July 27.
July 10
- Truman Elementary School: An individual associated with the SPARC before- and after-Explore program at Truman Elementary tested positive for Covid-19. Out of an abundance of caution, the Springfield-Greene County Park Board temporarily suspended the SPARC program at Truman.
July 4
- Fremont Elementary School: An employee at Fremont Elementary tested positive for Covid-19 and had limited contact with other employees at work. The employee did not have interaction with students and was quarantined.
SPS has worked closely with the Springfield-Greene County Health Department to ensure that communication has been directly shared with all appropriate individuals when positive cases are reported.
