Bus riders for July Explore will follow procedures implemented to ensure health and wellness
Bus transportation will be provided to eligible students who are participating in seated classes during the July session of Explore. To promote appropriate social distancing and good health and hygiene practices, SPS will implement a variety of precautionary procedures to be followed by bus drivers and passengers. These will help ensure the health and well being of everyone on the bus.
As you prepare your student to ride the bus, please keep in mind the following:
Prior to boarding, students will submit to a temperature screening. A parent or guardian should be present at the bus stop if at all possible. If a student registers a temperature of 100 degrees or more, the parent/guardian will be asked to take the child home. If a parent/guardian is not present at the bus stop, they will be contacted by phone. If the parent/guardian is not able to come to the bus stop quickly, the student will be isolated on the bus and transported to school where the parent/guardian should pick them up.
While on the bus, drivers and students will be required to wear a face covering if social distancing is not feasible. Students are encouraged to bring their own face covering but if they do not have one they will be provided one. Students will be expected to maintain their masks and keep it with them during the school day.
Hand sanitizer will also be available on each bus.
Loading and seating procedures have been developed to minimize interaction among passengers.
Students will sit in assigned seats and social distance when possible.
To enhance air circulation, bus drivers will also keep windows down as much as possible, depending on weather conditions.
Buses will be appropriately cleaned and disinfected on a regular basis.
Eligible students who indicated they will ride the bus should receive a postcard from the Transportation Department by July 1 with details about their bus stop location and pick up and drop off times.
