Grab N Go Meal program team fed, celebrated by Springfield Cardinals on last day of school

Since beginning March 23, a team of more than 150 SPS employees has prepared, packed and distributed more than 519,000 meals to children in Springfield. The Grab N Go Meal Program was one of the district's first implemented efforts in response to COVID-19.

These team members showed up to feed Springfield's students for two months, and on the last day of the SPS At Home effort, the Springfield Cardinals showed up for them.

On Thursday, May 21, the Springfield Cardinals organization fed Grab N Go Meal team members at 15 SPS sites. The funding for the districtwide celebration was provided during the Springfield Cardinals' Fly Together T-shirt fundraiser, supported by Springfield Cardinals fans.

"Thank you to all the Cardinals Community Partners that participated in feeding so many community heroes today," the Springfield Cardinals shared on their Facebook page.

In addition to a meal, each Grab N Go team member was given a Springfield Cardinals hat, presented by Louie the Redbird.

"Our team has worked so hard these past couple of months," said Kim Keller, director of Nutrition Services. "We're so proud of all they are able to do and will keep doing this summer to ensure that our kids are fed in this community."
