School History

  • Westport K-8 School is part of the Springfield R-XII school district and is located in the west central part of the district. The original building constructed in 1947 is still the primary structure for elementary students in the school.  In 2009 voters in Springfield, Missouri approved a $9.3 million dollar bond to expand Westport Elementary School (K-5) to a K-8 campus to accommodate Study Middle School (6-8) students. The project included some remodeling of the current elementary area and new construction for the middle school section of the facility.  The new and renovated Westport K-8 facility is the fourth K-8 school structure in the Springfield School District. Opening in August for the 2013-14 school year, Westport K-8 is home to approximately 850 students (425 Elementary and 425 Middle School). Students, parents and teachers attempt to live up to the school motto of “Best in the West”. The school mascot, the wildcat, symbolized this constant diligence and pursuit of excellence.
