Travis Dr. Joellyn Travis, Joellyn Principal Dr. Joellyn Travis has completed 23 years in public schools. The first 14 years were spent in the classroom at Marshfield Public Schools. She served as Asst Principal in Lebanon, MO for two years, Lead Principal at Pleasant Hope Elementary for two years, and as administrator at Truman Elementary for the last five years. She has a bachelors degree from MSU in elementary education, a masters degree in educational leadership from MSU, and a Doctorate in Educational Administration from Lindenwood.
Sharp Lisa Sharp, Lisa Administrative Assistant Lisa Sharp has been the secretary at Truman for the past 7 years. Prior to becoming secretary at Truman, she was a paraprofessional in one of our CSS classrooms for 5 years. Ms. Lisa has a long relationship with Truman. Now a proud grandmother of two, her sons attended Truman when they were children.
Craven Ronda Craven, Ronda Nurse Ronda Craven is a registered nurse at Truman Elementary. She received her degree at St. John's School of Nursing and began her career in nursing working on the cardiac floor at St. Johns Hospital. She has practiced school nursing for the last 23 years with 15 of those serving the students and families of Truman Elementary. In her spare time, Ronda loves to travel, shop, and spend time with her family.
Bounds Angela Bounds, Angela Counselor Angela Bounds has been a counselor for 18 years, 8 of which have been at Truman Elementary. She received her masters in guidance and counseling from MSU. She is a certified Level 3 Triple P (Positive Parenting Partnership) provider. She is excited to use these credentials to help parents be the best they can be at the world's most difficult and potentially rewarding job: parenting. During her free time she enjoys camping, floating, hiking, and all things outdoors with her husband and 3 children.
Darnell Breann Darnell, Breann Teacher, Kindergarten Breann Darnell is in her 15th year of teaching and her 11th year at Truman. She currently teaches kindergarten but has also taught first grade. She has also had the pleasure of being an Explore summer school building principal at Truman in 2018 and 2016, and Williams in 2015. She has a masters in administration from Missouri State University. When not at Truman, she stays busy with her husband and three children where she can be found on a go-kart racetrack cheering on her eldest son.
Miller-Morgan Cindy Miller-Morgan, Cindy Teacher, Wonder Years Cindy Miller-Morgan has been in education for 23 years. Having taught the first five years at Everton R-III school district, the following 18 years have all been in Springfield Public Schools at Truman Elementary with the majority of her time in a kindergarten classroom. She has a bachelors degree in elementary education, a middle school certification, an early childhood certification, and a masters of elementary education.
Karr Jo Beth Karr, Jo Beth Teacher, Grade 1 Jo Beth Karr has been in public education for fourteen years. She received her bachelor of science in education at Missouri State University and began her career as an instrumental music educator in the Pleasant Hope school district. After earning her masters degree from MSU and staying home with her two children when they were small, she joined Springfield Public Schools at Rountree, Portland, and finally, Truman. In her free time she enjoys reading, canoeing, and spending time at the lake.
Yarberry Lynni Yarberry, Lynni Teacher, Kindergarten Lynni Payne began her career in education at Truman Elementary in 2015. She has taught kindergarten for three years with two of those year in a combined kindergarten and first grade classroom. She received her bachelors in early childhood education from Missouri State University.
Carder Stephanie Carder, Stephanie Teacher, Grade 2 Stephanie Carder is in her 26th year of teaching. She currently teaches 2nd grade but has also taught 4th grade at Truman and 13 years at York Elementary. She has also spent the last 3 summers teaching Explore. She has a bachelors degree from Evangel University and a masters degree in elementary education from Missouri State University. When she is not at Truman, you might find her working on her farm, managing a neighborhood pool, or with her husband and two daughters daughters.
Bushong Ann Bushong, Ann Teacher, Split Classroom Grades 1 & 2 Ann Bushong has been in education for 22 years. She started as a teacher's assistant in a kindergarten classroom. She has taught kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 5th grades. She received both her bachelors and masters in elementary education from Drury University.
Compton Susie Compton, Susie Teacher, Grade 3 Susie Compton has been with Springfield Public Schools since September 1987. Susie received her bachelors and masters degree from Missouri State University in 1995 and 1999, respectively. She taught fourth grade at Westport for three years prior to joining Truman. When not at Truman, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Samsel Jennifer Samsel, Jennifer Teacher, Grade 3 Jennifer Samsel has taught for Springfield Public Schools for 22 years. She has been a teacher at Truman Elementary for the past 8 years. Prior to teaching at Truman she taught at Holland, McGregor, and Disney. Jennifer received her bachelor of education degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and her master of education degree from Drury University. In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys watching her son play baseball and basketball.
Bell Amy Bell, Amy Teacher, Grade 4 Amy Bell has been an educator for 25 years. After starting out as an instructional support aide at Shady Dell for a year, she has taught the rest of her career at Truman Elementary School. She is currently teaching 4th grade, but has also taught in grades 2, 3, and 5 during her time at Truman. Amy has her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Southwest Missouri State University and a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Southwest Baptist University.
Kirkey Cassie Kirkey, Cassie Teacher, Grade 4 Cassie Kirkey is currently in her third year of education having been at Truman since 2016. She received her bachelors in elementary education from Drury University and is currently working on her masters in administration from William Woods University. Having actually attended elementary school at Truman, Cassie is excited to be teaching 4th grade with her 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Amy Bell! When not at Truman, Cassie enjoys spending time with her husband, dogs, and cheering on her Razorbacks.
McNeece Matt McNeece, Matt Teacher, Grade 5 Currently in his eleventh year of teaching, Matt McNeece attended Missouri State University and graduated with a bachelors degree in general business in 2004 and achieved his masters in elementary education in 2008. In addition to Springfield, he has also taught fifth grade in Chicago and Nixa. When not at school, he spends his time traveling, hiking, trying new restaurants, and enjoying the company of friends and family.
Reed Jeff Reed, Jeff Teacher, Grade 5 Jeff Reed began his teaching career at Holland Elementary in 1991 where he taught third grade for 20 years. In 2011 he began teaching fifth grade at Truman Elementary. He received his masters degree from Missouri State University in 1998 and last year completed his Google Certification. During his free time he enjoys riding his motorcycle, playing music, and camping with his family.
Ammerman D'Ann Ammerman, D'Ann Teacher, Cross-Categorical D'Ann Ammerman has taught for 19 years. She has a bachelors in cross-categorical special education and a masters in reading. She student-taught in the district behavior disorder program discovering an affinity for empathizing and connecting with behaviorally-challenged students. She became a special educator at McGregor in 2000 and joined the Truman family in 2004. In addition, she serves on a research team focused on strategies to reduce frustration and increase success for all students.
Ezell Phoebe Ezell, Phoebe Teacher, Special Education Phoebe Ezell has been an educator in Springfield Public Schools since 2004. She received her bachelors degree in elementary education from Missouri State University and is currently working on her masters in special education with an emphasis on autism spectrum disorders. In her free time, Mrs. Ezell enjoys theater, spending time with her family, and participating in living history reenactments.
Lawson Jean Lawson, Jean Teacher, Special Education Jean Lawson joined Truman in 2006, where she began as a paraprofessional in a kindergarten classroom. For the past 11 years, she's been a special education teacher in a CSS classroom, where she imbeds intensive interventions in communication, socialization and sensory integration into her instruction. She holds an MA in special education and an Autism Certificate from Missouri State University. In 2018, she was honored as SPS Teacher of the Year as well as Missouri Regional Teacher of the Year.

Beach Cindy Beach, Cindy Instructional Technology Cindy Beach received her degree in elementary education and library science from SMSU in 1992. She taught middle school math in Lockwood, Missouri and was the high school librarian in Diamond, Missouri before taking off to be with her daughter. Cindy later returned to SPS as a substitute before becoming full time at Truman.
Carter Katie Carter, Katie Librarian Katie Carter began at Holland and Truman Elementaries in 2016. She received her bachelors of education in English from Missouri State University. She has over seven years of library experience from Missouri State University Library and the Springfield Greene County Public Library. Her passion for elementary students led her to the elementary school, where she teaches literacy, information, and technology skills - and gets kids excited to read!
Doke Brandon Doke, Brandon Physical Education Coach Brandon Doke has been in education for eight years. He has taught elementary physical education for six years and has taught high school physical education for two years. He received his masters degree in athletic administration and athletics and intends to continue his pursuit of being in the administration field.
George Aubra George, Aubra Art Education Aubra George has been in education for one year serving as art teacher for both Truman and Pleasant View Elementary schools. She received her art education K-12 teaching certificate from Drury University and her bachelor of science in mass media with a minor in art and photography from Missouri State University. Prior to teaching, Aubra worked for 14 years as a photojournalist and editorial photography editor. In her free time, Aubra enjoys gardening, hiking and photography.
Kniffin Barbara Kniffin, Barbara Music Education Barbara Kniffin has taught at Truman Elementary and Pleasant View Elementary since 2006. Her educational teaching certificate endorsement is in K-12 Vocal and Instrumental Music. She received degrees in Music Education and Music Therapy from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Urbon Janet Urbon, Janet Teacher, Early Childhood Special Education Janet Urbon has been in education for 7 years. She started as a lead teacher in early childhood education and then became a director of an early childhood education program. Mrs. Urbon has a masters degree in education.
Thomas Denise Thomas, Denise Teacher, Early Childhood Special Education Denise Thomas has taught Early Childhood Special Education for 17 years at Truman Elementary and six years at Shady Dell Early Childhood Center. She received two BS degrees from Missouri State University: a bachelors in psychology and a bachelors in elementary education with early childhood special education certification. She has one adult daughter. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, kayaking, and antique shopping.
