The “Viking Singers” program at Parkview has gained a reputation as one of the leading high school vocal music departments. With such a large program, there are opportunities for singers of varied interests and abilities. The Viking Singers are fortunate to be represented by students who are active and successful in various sports, speech/debate, theatre arts, band, orchestra, and countless other school and community activities. An exciting aspect of the program is the Viking Men’s Chorus and the Viking Women’s Chorus (Chorus II). These outstanding ensembles give the more interested and talented singers in grades 10-12 a venue to learn challenging choral literature in a homogeneous setting. In addition to the schedule of school concerts and assemblies, these popular groups consistently receive superior ratings in the MSHSAA State Musical Festival for Large Ensembles, and at a major choral competition held in Kansas City. The Concert Choir is the “Varsity” ensemble at PHS. This advanced group thrives on a tradition of choral music excellence fostered by dedication and hard work. The Concert Choir has performed for the Missouri Music Educators Association (MMEA) Convention in 1997, 2000, and 2005, and for the American Choral Director’s Association Southwest Division in 2002.
