Wright Ms. Courtney Wright, Courtney Music I. Specialty Teachers Courtney Wright has been in education for twelve years, and she is very excited to be �joining the Sequiota tribe! She�s been a music teacher in the Joplin area for the past ten years. She received her Bachelors of Music Education from Southwest Baptist University and her Masters of Music from Missouri State University. McAllister Ms. Cortney McAllister, Cortney Visual Arts I. Specialty Teachers Cortney McAllister has been in education for 6 years and has been teaching visual art at Sequiota Elementary for the last 5 years. �She has also taught at Cherokee Middle School, Fremont Elementary,� Delaware Elementary, Springfield Option Site, and the Artworks summer program. Verfurth Mrs. Meagan Verfurth, Meagan Counselor I. Specialty Teachers Meagan Verfurth has worked for SPS for four years. She started her career in education as a developmental screener for Parents As Teachers. She has been the School Counselor at Sequiota since the spring of 2017. Meagan graduated from MSU with her undergraduate degree in Child and Family Development and received her graduate degree in School Counseling. Lohman Ms. Amy Lohman, Amy Speech Language Pathologist H. Special Education Amy Lohman is beginning her 20th year as a speech-language pathologist with SPS. She worked her first year as an SLP in southern California. Amy has worked at several schools throughout the Springfield school district and currently serves the students and families at Sequiota and Field Elementary. Robertson Mrs. Shellie Robertson, Shellie Occupational Therapist H. Special Education Shellie has been an Occupational Therapist with Springfield Public Schools for the past 18 years. Shellie currently travels to eight different schools providing services to children from the age of 3-21.�She feels privileged to be a part of the Sequiota Tribe, and admits it is one of her favorite sites.�In her free time she enjoys traveling, kayaking, campfires, and reading.� srobertson490@spsmail.org
Thomas Mr. Curtis Thomas, Curtis Library J. Library Curtis Thomas has taught for SPS for four years. This is his first year as a librarian. He previously taught journalism and English at Hillcrest High, and broadcast journalism at Central before that. He has a bachelors degree in English education from MSU and a Masters in English from MU. His wife Jenny teaches at Pershing and they have a son, Louis, who is almost one. Powell Mrs. Kathy Powell, Kathy Library Clerical J. Library Kathy Powell is in her 20th year as a library clerical. She is the mother of 4 adult children with spouses, and has 6 grandchildren and a step grandchild. She lost her husband 12 years ago due to a long battle of cancer, so family is very important I her life. She is shared with Bissett Elem. on the days she is not at Sequiota. In her free time she enjoys gardening, reading, swimming and fun with grandchildren. She is looking forward to meeting and making new friendships. kpowell@spsmail.org
Sharkey Ms. Steve Sharkey, Steve Instructional K. Support Staff Steve Sharkey began his career in education with SPS 17 years ago in 2001.�Prior to becoming an ISA at Sequiota, Steve was a sub with SPS for 3 years, teaching art for a semester and 3rd grade for a semester at Williams Elementary among other assignments. He was a kindergarten para at Williams Elementary for 3 years and a Wonder Years para for 5 years at Shady Dell Early Childhood Center. Gillham Mrs. Jennifer Gillham, Jennifer Paraprofessional H. Special Education Jennifer Gillham is the SPED Para at Sequiota. Morris Mrs. Jennifer Morris, Jennifer Instructional Technologist I. Specialty Teachers Jennifer Morris is our Instructional Technologist and STEAM teacher. She has been with SPS for 7 years and here at Sequiota for 4. She has taught several things including first grade, preschool. She graduated from Culver-Stockton College in 1995 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and is a certified teacher. Ward Ms. Heather Ward, Heather Paraprofessional K. Support Staff Heather worked with at risk youth and graduated from AZ State with a bachelors in mathematics. And although she ended up with a career in the insurance industry, she never lost her passion for working with kids. In 2003 she and her husband moved to Springfield, and 5 years later started their family. Heather was able to stay home to raise their two children Ryan, 10, and Kate, 8. Once Kate was in school, Heather decided to follow her passion back in the workforce and has since been working in a hrward@spsmail.org
Wagner Mrs. Jessica Wagner, Jessica Principal A. Administration Mrs. Wagner is starting her tenth year in Springfield Public Schools.This will be her first year at Sequiota Elementary. She just completed her Specialist in Administration from Arkansas State University this past May. She has previously served as the Assistant to the Principal at Disney and Bingham, and taught elementary art prior to that at Weller, Boyd, Weaver, and Bissett. In her free time Mrs. Wagner enjoys spending time with her husband on their cattle farm. ��
Dees Mrs. Melba Dees, Melba Administrative Assistant L. Office Melba Dees, aka Mrs. Melba is starting her 9th�year as the secretary for Sequiota.�Prior to that she was the secretary at Boyd Elementary for 6 years.�She and her husband, Larry, have two children, Jessica and David.�They also have two wonderful grandchildren.�They live in Republic with their parents and their names are Paisley and Keaton.�She cannot forget to add to this amazing mix of people their spoiled cat Paiton. Glenn Mrs. Christen Glenn, Christen Blended Learning O. Blended Christen Glenn has been in education for seven years. She has been a Blended Learning Specialist for three years. Prior to becoming a Blended Learning Specialist, Christen taught at McGregor Elementary for two years and one year in Marionville. Christen is currently finishing her doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from SBU. Christen supports Holland, Mann, Pittman, Pleasant View K-8, Sequiota, Truman, and Choice Programs. Johnston Mr. Andy Johnston, Andy Orchestra I. Hubbell Mrs. Bethany Hubbell, Bethany Teacher B. Kindergarten This is Bethany Hubbell�s 12th year in education. She spent 9 years in 1st grade, 2 in 2nd grade and is excited about teaching Kindergarten this year. She received her Bachelors in Education from Missouri State University as well as her Masters in Literacy. When Bethany is not at school, you can find her spending time with her family. Slominsky Mrs. Michelle Slominsky, Michelle Teacher B. Kindergarten This will be Michelle�s 16th year of teaching, her 7th year at Sequiota. She has a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education, a Masters in Reading Foundations and an Educational Specialist in Teacher Leadership, all from Missouri State University. It is her passion to help children develop into curious and kind learners. She has been married for 15 years and has 2 young children. Ridder Mrs. Jessica Ridder, Jessica Teacher C. First Jessica Ridder is in her fourth year of teaching. This school year is her third year of teaching first grade at Sequiota. Prior to teaching in Springfield, Jessica taught kindergarten at Granby Elementary. Jessica is currently finishing her masters degree in Early Childhood and Family Development at MSU. Hoffman Mrs. Katie Hoffman, Katie Teacher D. Second Katie Hoffman began teaching at Sequiota in 2005. She has taught Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades at Sequiota. She got married a couple of years ago to Brandon and now has two wonderful stepsons.�Her dog Finley is also a big part of the family. Kilburn Mrs. Krissi Kilburn, Krissi Teacher D. Second Krissi Kilburn has been in education for nine years. She is a second grade teacher with past teaching experience in kindergarten and fifth. Before joining the Sequiota staff Krissi had taught in Independence and Republic Missouri. Wadsworth Mrs. Sheri Wadsworth, Sheri Teacher D. Second Sheri Wadsworth has been an elementary education teacher for Springfield Public Schools for 26 years with 25 of those being at Sequiota Elementary. She has taught grades 2, 3, 4, and 5.� Her favorite thing about teaching is to find creative ways to help all students be successful with their learning. James Mr. Matthew James, Matthew Teacher E. Third Matthew James is entering his second year of education. This is his second year at Sequiota as a third grade teacher. Prior to teaching, Matthew was a performer in Branson, Chicago, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Matthew is currently finishing his Master of Science degree in Elementary Education from MSU. In his free time Matthew enjoys performing for local community theater, reading, music, cooking, and working on his new house. Zay Mrs. Traci Zay, Traci Teacher E. Third Traci Zay has been teaching for 27 years. She is a graduate of Drury college with a masters in EDU. She is a wife to Mark and a mother to two grown children. Her hobbies include walks with her 11 year old Yorkie, Scruffie, watching ballet, book clubs and theatre. Griffin Mrs. Bobbie Griffin, Bobbie Teacher F. Fourth Bobbie Griffin is beginning her eleventh year of teaching. She taught at Chadwick Elementary School for four years before moving to Sequiota Elementary. Most of her teaching experience has been in the third grade classroom, but she also taught kindergarten for one year and will be teaching fourth grade this year. In addition to a masters degree in elementary education, she has reading specialist and gifted and talented certifications. Fourth Traci Nelson has been teaching for 26 years.�She graduated from Missouri State University with a Bachelors and Masters of Science in Elementary Education.�She has previously taught at York Elementary. Collins Miss Amanda Collins, Amanda Teacher G. Fifth Amanda Collins has been in education for 16 years. Popp Ms. Brenda Popp, Brenda Teacher G. Fifth Brenda Popp has been teaching for Springfield Public Schools for 12 years. Prior to her 8th year of teaching 4th and 5th grade at Sequiota, she taught 4th and 5th grade at Delaware Elementary. Faucher Mrs. Liz Faucher, Liz Teacher H. Special Education Liz Faucher is starting her fourth year of teaching this year, and second year at Sequiota, full time. Leppien Ms. Hannah Leppien, Hannah Teacher H. Special Education Hannah Leppien is the part-time special education teacher at Sequiota. She will be spending half of the day at Sequiota Elementary and the other half at Wilder Elementary. She graduated from Missouri State University in May 2018 with a Bachelor�s in Special Education.
