CHS administration responds to security issue
Today, Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, Central High School administrators received a tip that a student had a weapon at school. Administrators responded immediately to investigate the incident, questioning the student who allegedly had the weapon. A BB gun was located and quickly taken into possession by School Police. It was not loaded and not presented in a threatening manner. No students or staff were harmed.
We consider any weapon at school a serious concern and Central administrators and school police will continue to thoroughly investigate the matter.
Individuals who came forward to report what they saw are to be commended. By doing so, they are helping to keep Central safe for everyone. The public is always encouraged to share information with School Police by calling 523-2911.
We want to assure you that appropriate disciplinary procedures will be followed based upon the findings of the investigation.
UPDATE (4:30 p.m. Sept. 7):
As our investigation into the BB gun continued, we determined that another student was in possession of an airsoft pellet gun, which was immediately confiscated.
The circumstances were very similar to the first instance in that the weapon was not loaded and it was not presented in a threatening manner. No students or staff were harmed.
Thank you for your cooperation and support as we thoroughly investigated this matter. Keeping our schools safe for students and staff is our priority every day. You can help us in our efforts to keep Central safe by reminding your child that no weapons of any type are allowed on school property.
