Music video gets students, staff hyped to head #BacktoSPS
Joshua Kennedy is a fifth-grade teacher at Wilson’s Creek Intermediate School, where he has taught for 10 years. He also happens to be a rapper.
And this spring, he wrote an original song: “Back to SPS.”
“My goal for the song is just to show that we can have fun at school,” said Kennedy. “School is exciting, and we don’t take ourselves too seriously. School should be a fun place where everyone can have a good time.”
The original rap song “Back to SPS” features two lines with Superintendent John Jungmann, recorded in Central High School’s podcast room. Central High School media students were recorded providing back-up vocals at the end of the track.
And what’s an original song without a music video? Students and staff from a variety of SPS sites, including Reed and Pipkin middle schools, Central and Hillcrest high schools and Kennedy’s fifth-graders at Wilson’s Creek, joined leaders and Board of Education members in the video to help celebrate SPS.
“I can’t wait to show my new students this year the video,” said Kennedy, heading into his 11th year teaching. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
