CHS Wind Ensemble selected to perform at Missouri Music Educators Association State Conference
The Central High School Wind Ensemble was one of five high school concert bands selected from top bands across Missouri to perform at the Missouri Music Educators Association In-Service Workshop in January.
"This is a tremendous accomplishment and the highest recognition in the state that a concert band can receive," said Chris Rohrbaugh, director of bands at Central High School. "We are thrilled to be representing our school, district and community at this prestigious event."
In 2008, the Central High School Wind Ensemble directed by Rohrbaugh became the first high school band from SPS to be selected for the convention in more than 30 years. Once selected, groups can only apply every four years. This will be the third time the Wind Ensemble has been selected for this honor, with previous performances in 2008 and 2012.
Each year, an out-of-state committee of music educators review submitted recordings and select the very best to perform at the convention. There, students and music educators not only perform, but observe the very best young musicians and directors in Missouri. The collaborative event is a celebration of excellence in fine arts.
