I Choose SPS: Meet Bronx Hawkins, AgAcademy Student.

Oct. 29, 2025

Bronx Hawkins smiles for the camera while standing outside the AgAcademy building.

“I’ve been at AgAcademy since fourth grade, I’m in sixth currently. I love it here because of the animals and plants. I think it’s interesting AgAcademy tries to incorporate ag related things as much as they can. Like our first unit in English, we made a field guide about animals. Mine, personally, was about giant pandas. In their free time, their favorite thing to do is handstand against trees and their diet is like 99.9% bamboo. They’re my favorite animal. I just like them because they’re fluffy and cute and they’re snugglish.

My favorite thing I’ve done at AgAcademy is working with the turtles or chickens. My first year here, I was part of the turtle crew three times. The chickens out there in the courtyard, I take care of them – wash out their coop every other day and give them food and water. My favorite animals here are either Little Foot, Bandit or one of my roosters. My two roosters are the black rooster that’s in the courtyard and Boots who's in the cage because he got hurt. He got too big for his own shoes or whatever because he keeps fighting.

When I’m older, I want to be a scientist, like a paleontologist who digs up dinosaur bones. It’s not really related to agriculture, but it’s still science. I also want to do the Health Sciences Academy. My older sisters and brother went there and I just want to learn about health and medical sciences.

Here at AgAcademy, we try to do something fun like a lab experience or go somewhere every week. At the school I used to go to, we learned English, math and simple specials. But here, we have ag time which is all about agriculture. Even when we do the mile in PE, we can look at the chickens.”
