Parkview DECA recognized for outstanding school-based enterprise
3/3/23
The Viking Venue, the school-based enterprise at Parkview High School in operation for 20 years, was among 461 school-based enterprises achieving Gold Level Certification for the 2022-2023 school year. The group will be recognized during DECA’s International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Fla.
This year’s team members who submitted the 49-page documentation are Bethanie Koone, with the assistance of Trinity Hilles, Judah Verdugo, Destiny Stewart, Levi Noguera and Jace Thomas. They received support and assistance from the Viking Venue crew, the Parkview Barkery staff, their DECA chapter advisors, Angie Wyatt and Jill Fannin, and DECA members.
“Their hard work earned them two spots to compete in DECA’s SBE Academy at ICDC,” said marketing teacher Angie Wyatt. “Way to go! Trinity Hilles has qualified to take one of the SBE Academy presentation spots at ICDC. The second spot will be Bethanie, or will be determined at the state contest.”
In addition, Zo Black, Sage Burns and Taylor Simmons have qualified in their District events to compete at the DECA State Competition.
A school-based enterprise (SBE) is a school-based entrepreneurial operation that provides goods and services to meet the needs of the market. SBEs are managed and operated by students as hands-on learning laboratories that integrate National Curriculum Standards in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
SBEs can be certified at three levels: bronze, silver or gold. In order to apply for the certification, SBEs must submit extensive documentation that explains how the SBE demonstrates the practice of various marketing and retail standards. A review committee evaluates the documentation to determine which level of certification has been achieved. DECA’s School-based Enterprise programs are sponsored by Intuit and Otis Spunkmeyer Inc.
