SPS students win big at regional FCCLA contest
Springfield Public Schools competed at the regional Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) contest Jan. 30. The regional STAR event recognize participants who create projects to demonstrate their knowledge and skill around an issue concerning families, careers or communities. Central, Glendale, Kickapoo and Parkview high schools sent students to compete.
"Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life," shared Katie Kensinger, college and career readiness coordinator. "Planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making and interpersonal communication -- all of these are needed for college, careers and life."
The regional STAR event was held at Missouri State University. Students who earned a top gold medal advance to the Missouri State Leadership Conference to compete in STAR Events at the state level in March.
Kickapoo, Glendale and Parkview high schools all had students who advanced to state competition in March.
