CSPAN broadcasts Springfield Scholars' nationally recognized History Day performance
This year, seven Springfield Scholars students from the Phelps Center for Gifted Education qualified for the National History Day (NHD) competition in College Park, Md. after placing first or second at both the Regional and State History Day competitions.
Each category at the NHD competition had over 100 entries representing all 50 states and U.S. territories.
SPS individual qualifiers are:
Marie Baird – eighth grade
Claire Bodnar – eighth grade
Ned Pickett – seventh grade
In addition, a seventh-grade performance group (pictured) of Katriel Garrison, Elana Hadi, Katie Su and Hannah Young, qualified as a NHD Top 10 finalist with their performance titled "Alice Paul: The Fight for the Nineteenth Amendment."
