Portland attendance area becomes part of Sunshine attendance area for 2020-2021 school year

On April 2, 2019, Springfield Public Schools' voters approved the funds to renovate and expand Sunshine Elementary.  The approved plans required boundary changes to the current Portland, Sunshine, and Delaware elementary schools’ attendance areas to maintain optimal capacity levels.  Those boundary changes go into effect for the 2020-2021 school year and will impact families that currently live within the Portland attendance area and who attend Portland on a transfer.

Families who currently live in the Portland attendance area will be moved into the Sunshine attendance area.  Those families will be notified through the US mail and by email during the week of Feb. 6, 2020.  Families in the current Portland attendance area, who would like to attend a school other than Sunshine next year, will need to complete the online transfer request form.  Students who are approved for a transfer will not receive free transportation.

Students who currently attend Portland on a transfer will be notified through the US mail and by email during the week of Feb. 6, 2020.  You should complete the transfer request form as soon as possible to request a transfer to the school of your choice for the 2020-2021 school year.  If you do not request a transfer, your child will be enrolled in the school assigned based on your home address.

To request a transfer for the 2020-2021 school year, complete the transfer online request form available at www.sps.org/transfers as soon as possible.
