The 15th annual Flock Olympics celebrates students of all abilities

The 15th annual Flock Olympics brought students together to have some fun and celebrate all abilities at Glendale High School earlier this year.
Special Olympics Missouri State Outdoor Games athletes were partnered with buddies to participate in various sporting events like bowling, kickball and shooting baskets in the Glendale gym. The stands were filled with students cheering for the athletes with signs made to encourage each of the participants. The energy in the room was electric as everyone was there to have fun and enjoy their community.
As part of the event, Glendale students also raised money to support the school’s functional skills classrooms. Raising $4,500, this year’s event broke the record for the most money raised through Flock Olympics.
Glendale was also announced as a Unified Champion School for Special Olympics Missouri at the event. As a Unified Champion School, Glendale promotes social inclusion. According to Special Olympics Missouri, the Unified strategy is about unifying all students — with and without disabilities — using sports as a catalyst for social inclusion and attitude and behavioral change.
