Springfield Cardinals donate thousands to support schools

The Springfield Cardinals and their mascot Louie made special visits to the Academy of Exploration, Bingham, Bissett, Field and Rountree elementary schools to deliver thousands of dollars in grants to support the schools.

Each year, the Springfield Cardinals host SPS kindergarten through fifth grade students at SPS Family Nights baseball games. As part of the program, all schools that had at least 40% participation received a $500 donation through the Springfield Cardinals Fly Together Fund. The three schools with the best participation got a $1,000 donation.

“We started the ‘Family Night’ program as a way to invest in our community by encouraging family time,” Springfield Cardinals General Manager Dan Reiter said. “Our hope with SPS was for parents to engage with the schools and their children in a fun environment away from the classroom.  As the program has evolved, we thought friendly competition between schools would be fun and healthy, which is why we are thrilled to recognize the schools with high participation rates with a grant.”

In total, the Springfield Cardinals donated $4,000 in grants to help fund various school projects and programs. SPS Choice programs, Field and Rountree received the largest donations.
