Boys and Girls Club of Springfield named Parkview High School student Emilee Hinkle the Youth of the Year and recognized the SPS Transportation team at the 2026 Youth of the Year Gala on Feb. 11.

“Helping others reminds me of what my parents taught me—always be there for people, especially when times are hard,” Hinkle said in a press release from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Springfield. “The Club helped me find my voice and believe in myself. It’s my second home.”

Emilee was honored with the highest honor a Boys and Girls Club member can receive in recognition of her positivity, leadership and heart for service. With this honor, she received a $20,000 scholarship and will advance to compete at the state level in April. Emilee will also be recognized for her commitment to service at the upcoming Springfield Board of Education meeting on Feb. 24.

“From her involvement in Keystone to leading as drum major, she truly represents what it means to grow, lead and give back,” said Boys and Girls Club of Springfield.

The SPS Transportation team was also recognized at the gala as a 2025 "Blue Ambassa-DOORS." This recognition is given to individuals and community partners who helped the club open doors for youth in 2025.

“This recognition is reserved for individuals and organizations who truly open doors for our kids and families, live our mission beyond the walls of the Club, and do #whateverittakes to make opportunity possible,” said Boys and Girls Club of Springfield CEO Brandy Harris. “We are incredibly thankful for the care, advocacy and heart you bring to our mission.”
