Miss Missouri visits Pershing Best Buddies

The reigning Miss Missouri, Courtney Rowe, gave a special presentation to the students in Pershing Middle School’s Best Buddies program on Dec. 5.

The international Best Buddies program is a major partner with the Miss America organization, prompting Rowe to make a visit to Pershing’s chapter. This program is dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

During her visit, Rowe spoke with students about the people who make them feel seen and valued. The students remarked on the friends they have that always make sure they’re included.  These positive conversations filled the Pershing gym with smiles and giggles.

Representatives from the Nova Center of the Ozarks joined Miss Missouri at the meeting to share more information about their organization with the students. This offered students a local option for them to receive services or volunteer their time outside of school. Supporting individuals and families with autism and developmental disabilities, the work of the Nova Center pairs well with the focus of the school’s Best Buddies program.
