I Choose SPS: Meet Josie and Charlotte, Cherokee Middle School FCCLA members

Josie: “We heard about FCCLA through our friend, who told us how much fun she had in it the year before and what a great opportunity it was. I decided to join because I wanted to be involved in the school more, not just in sports, and FCCLA seemed like a great chance to do that.
Last year, our church went to a place called Eden Village, a community that helps displaced people, to help serve them. There, we realized how much they help people who don’t have the means to provide for themselves.”
Charlotte: “Once we joined FCCLA, both Josie and I decided to do a Regional STAR event. We thought it would be a great idea if we did something that could continue to help the homeless in our community. We asked Mrs. Sandell, our club leader, and she recommended the Public Policy Advocate. After doing some research, we found out that the Missouri House Trust Fund (MHTF) is outdated, unused and not properly funded. Once we did more research, we decided to go for it and we thought this was the best way to help those in our community.
I would recommend other students to join FCCLA. It is a lot of fun and very rewarding. You get to help your community and work on your teamwork skills. You are able to work on fun projects with friends and learn more about time management.”
Josie: “I would recommend students join because it is a great opportunity to help your school and your community. You also get to meet so many students!
Other than FCCLA, we are involved with many different things at school. I do cheer, cross country, track and varsity choir with my friends. I also enjoy doing student council, NJHS and FCA.”
Charlotte: “I enjoy learning math and I really like my algebra class. I also really like English. I run cross country and track and the coaches are amazing. I play the flute in band and I enjoy being a part of Student Council as well as attending FCA meetings. I also have the privilege of being in NJHS.”
