First graders open their own market

While learning about goods and services in their economic unit, Disney Elementary School first graders hosted their own market for their families on Feb. 27, 2026.

Playing the roles of both producer and merchant, students crafted their own items for sale and set up the market at their school for parents to peruse. The students raised $636 through their market. They donated $424 of the proceeds to Ozarks Food Harvest on Monday to support their "Food Fight" campaign. The remaining $212 will be used to purchase first grade readers for the entire grade level.

The Ozarks Food Harvest “Food Fight” campaign is focused on raising food and funds to support the Weekend Backpack Program which provides weekend meals for students facing hunger. The schools that raise the most meals per student will win the 2026 title.
