Day of Caring volunteers support local schools

 

United Way Day of Caring on June 18  brought together volunteers from across Springfield to support the community, including helping Springfield Public Schools prepare for the upcoming school year. 

At Crosslines Community Outreach, volunteers stuffed more than 3,600 backpacks with school supplies that will be distributed to students at the SPS Back to School Bash at the Springfield Expo Center on Saturday, July 25. Each backpack was filled with notebooks, pencils, crayons and care. Volunteers also prepared materials for the Crosslines Math & Reading Buddy program which helps students build strong foundations in reading and math.

Another set of volunteers from CoxHealth spent the morning at SPS General Services Center sorting and organizing Ready. Set. Supply! school supplies. The newly-organized supplies will be distributed to Title I schools across the district to provide students with everything they need for a successful start to the school year.

On Aug. 25, nearly 25,000 students in Springfield will show up for school ready to learn. The support of United Way Day of Caring volunteers will help all of these students start the school year on the right foot with the tools they need to learn.
