Elementary Science

Goals

Goal 1: The district will support the adoption of resources, creation of curriculum/assessments, and provide content-specific professional learning to support teacher implementation and meet individual student needs.

Goal 2: Teachers will implement the Guaranteed and Viable (district adopted) Curriculum, resources, and assessments with integrity.

Goal 3: Students will engage in learning experiences that develop health knowledge and skills that directly contributes to health-promoting decisions and behaviors.

Goal 4: Students will engage in learning experiences that empower them to investigate and generate evidence-based scientific explanations for the world around them.

Individual science lessons and activities are taught using the 5E learning cycle.

The 5E learning cycle allows students to develop an understanding through engagement and exploration.  These experiences allow students  to understand the concept, even define it, before a term is presented.  This gives students the opportunity to "discover" the concepts on their own and experiences to connect the terms to once they are introduced. Students can then elaborate, or apply, the new concepts to related phenomena for a deeper understanding.
