Elementary Fine Arts

Music

The music program includes vocal and choral music, band, beginning strings and orchestra. Each grade level receives instruction on the various elements of music to include: expression, rhythm, form, melody, timbre, texture and harmony.

The Springfield Public Schools music program provides instruction by certified music instructors for every K-5 student.  Students participate in two, thirty-minute music classes per week and have the opportunity to participate in public performances.

Goals: 

Goal 1: The district will provide support and resources for teachers and students that are necessary to foster an environment conducive to artistic growth and the highest quality academic success.

Goal 2: Students will gain experience creating, performing, responding and connecting to a variety of developmentally appropriate music. 

Goal 3: Teachers will afford students opportunities for artistic experiences through active participation in music and enhance their understanding and appreciation of the arts. 

Goal 4: Teachers will implement district adopted curriculum and resources with fidelity. 

Visual Arts

The visual arts program provides instruction that incorporates art production, aesthetics, criticism and history, which nurtures the understanding of other cultures and prepares students to contribute to the world meaningfully and creatively.

The Springfield Public Schools visual arts program provides instruction by certified art instructors for every K-5 student one hour weekly. 

Goals: 

Goal 1: The district will provide support and resources for teachers and students that are necessary to foster an environment conducive to artistic growth and the highest quality academic success.

Goal 2: Students will gain experience creating, presenting, responding and connecting to a variety of developmentally appropriate art techniques, materials and processes. 

Goal 3: Teachers will provide students with ongoing opportunities for creative risk-taking and failure which provides students the opportunity to develop resiliency and recognize the strengths of iterations in project work.

Goal 4: Teachers will implement district adopted curriculum and resources with fidelity.
