Fly SPS

Fly SPS

Fly SPS provides students instruction in aviation and the opportunity to earn their private pilot's license while earning high school and college credit. Students will spend half the school day at Springfield-Branson National Airport engaged in aviation classroom work, simulator use, and flight hours. Upon successful completion of the two-year program, students can continue their associate degree in aviation, earn a commercial pilot's license or pursue other careers in aviation. Potential aviation careers include commercial and airline pilots, co-pilots and flight engineers.

Program Information

Fly SPS is a new program starting in August 2023 that will provide students instruction in aviation and the opportunity to earn their private pilot's license while earning high school and college credit. Students will spend half the school day at Springfield-Branson National Airport engaged in aviation classroom work, simulator use, and flight hours. Come Fly with SPS

Eligibility

  • Be a SPS sophomore interested in be a part of Fly SPS for their junior and senior years.

  • Receive building administrator, counselor, and teacher recommendation 

  • Have satisfactory attendance and behavior

    • 90%+ attendance average for two years up to the point of application

    • No Out of School Suspension (OSS) for two years up to the point of application

    • No more than four In School Suspension (ISS) for two years up to the point of application

    • No ISS incidents related to violence for two years up to the point of application

  • Participate in a scored interview with Springfield Public Schools and Ozarks Technical Community College staff.

  • Pass the required FAA Medical examination

Important Dates

  • Application window opens Nov. 1.
  • Application window closes Dec. 1.
