Academy of Fine and Performing Arts

The Academy of Fine and Performing Arts (AFPA) is an immersive, arts-integrated learning environment where students explore academic content through the creative processes of the fine and performing arts. Fifth-grade standards are taught through interdisciplinary units that blend math, science, literacy, and social studies with visual art, music, theater, movement, and design.
Housed at The Judith Enyeart Reynolds School of the Performing Arts in partnership with Springfield Little Theatre, AFPA provides students with authentic exposure to professional performance spaces and artistic practices. Students learn by creating, collaborating, questioning, and reflecting—using the arts as both a lens for understanding the world and a vehicle for demonstrating learning.
Students applying to AFPA should be curious, imaginative, and open to creative risk-taking. While an interest in theater, dance, vocal music, or visual arts is encouraged, no prior arts experience is required. AFPA is designed for students who enjoy hands-on learning, collaboration, and thinking creatively across disciplines.
