About the Program
The Academy of Exploration (AOE) is a STEM-focused program for 4th–6th grade students where science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are integrated into everyday learning. Designed as a multi-year experience, AOE provides students with hands-on, project-based learning opportunities that build upon one another each year. Through engineering design challenges, and real-world problem solving, students apply academic concepts in meaningful and engaging ways. AOE's three-year curriculum is designed to foster curiosity, innovation, and critical thinking while building the leadership and responsibility skills necessary for future success. Students work collaboratively to investigate challenges, develop solutions, and communicate their ideas while learning through exploration and discovery. The Academy of Exploration emphasizes creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking to prepare students for success in high school, college, careers, and beyond. Through a supportive and engaging environment, students develop the confidence and skills needed to become lifelong learners and problem solvers. Enrollment in the Academy of Exploration is available through Springfield Public Schools' CHOICE program application process. Admission is determined by a lottery process when the number of applicants exceeds program capacity.
